How the data is built
The datasets are built from NOAA GHCN station records, the official surface observations archived by the National Centers for Environmental Information. Each US zip code is mapped to nearby qualifying weather stations, and long-term averages are computed across a rolling 10-year window, currently July 2016 through June 2026. The window advances monthly, so the figures always reflect the most recent decade of observations.
Free vs. paid
The free datasets are single long-term averages: one overall value per zip code. Month-by-month average breakdowns are separate paid datasets. They are a good fit for baselines, screening, and quick reference. The paid datasets contain the underlying time-series — every month or every day across the full 10-year window — for every US zip code and more than 40,000 global locations, delivered as CSV. Do you have data outside the US?
